Excerpt from The Application of the Impulse Approximation to the Inelastic Scattering of Electrons by Hydrogen Atoms
A comparison of the experimental results with the theoretical results shows that the Born approximation tends to overestimate by a considerable amount the value of the cross section at low energies. In general, the maximum of the calculated cross section occurs at a value of the energy less than the value at which the actual experimental maximum occurs. Even the second Born approximation gives a value which is still too large for the cross section, although it is closer.
