Excerpt from Danziger Inventar: 1531-1591

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of nearly 11,000 documents spanning an era of dramatic political and economic upheaval in the Hanseatic League, a powerful alliance of trading cities in Northern Europe. Chronicling the decades leading up to the Thirty Years' War, it presents the meticulously preserved diplomatic correspondence and memoranda of the Hanseatic city of Danzig (now GdaÅsk, Poland). The author, Paul Simson, provides a comprehensive overview of the political, social, and economic conditions that shaped the Hanseatic League during this critical juncture. Through the lens of Danzig's extensive archives, Simson examines the League's internal divisions, its conflicts with Denmark and other powers, and its struggle to maintain its commercial dominance in the face of rising competition. The documents reveal not only the challenges confronting the League but also the resilience and adaptability of its member cities. This book offers a unique glimpse into the workings of one of the most important economic and political entities in medieval Europe, shedding light on the forces that shaped the course of European history.
