Excerpt from Costs of Butterfat Sampling and Testing Programs
Testing costs per hundredweight of milk decrease as producer shipments increase. At the 3 laboratories averaging tests per year, testing costs for producers shipping and pounds per month were estimated to be cents and cents per hundredweight, respectively. With tests per year, costs per hundredweight were about half these amounts.
The costs of composite sample programs, relative to costs of fresh sample programs, increase with sampling costs. With no sampling cost, 7 lo and 15-day composite programs cost less than 5, 4, and 3 fresh tests, respectively, and more than 4, 3, and 2 fresh tests, respectively. When all of a man's workload was chargeable to sampling, all composite programs cost more than programs of 15 or less fresh tests.
