This inroad occafioned the immediate lofs of Armenia to the Parthians;: and this was followed by fo violent an incurfion 1nto their own country, that moii of their nobility were defiroyed, together with the {on of their king; and foch immenfe multitudes of the common people, that the land was in: a great degree depopulated by this invafion. By this time Artabanus beganj to difcover that he was betrayed by thefe 111 whom he had placed the greateft' degree of confidence; and that Vitellius, by the means of had duced his friends and near relations tojoin in a plot for his deflruftion wherefore, not knowing in whom to place any confidence, leafl, under the mafia of triendlhip, he {hould be treated m a treacherous manner and having very good reai'on to believe that perfons of the firfi rank and quality were engagedi 1n the fcheme againft him, he infiantly made his efcape to the 1n terior provinces, where he met W1th immediate protection; and an army of the Dahi and Saci coming to his aflif'tance, he was not only enabled to vanquifh his enemies, but to recover his kingdom.
