This is a self-contained study book which aims to lead the student through the close study of the wealth of poetry inspired by war throughout history. Structured reading, writing, speaking and listening activities explore the wider moral and social issues of war, and detailed analysis of language and poetic techniques prepare students for examination work. Poets studied include Byron, Thomas Hardy, Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen and Kipling, and extracts from biographies and photographic material set the poems in context.
