In this book, one of the most influential theologians of recent times brings together his most important contributions to the dialogue between science and theology, placing wisdom as the ethics of knowledge at their centre. Moltmann argues that theology and science have much learn from each other, despite the dact that religious knowledge is largely discredited in the secularising west. AS he points out: 'TOday the dilemma between theology and science is no longer that they present conflicting statements. It is rather the lack of conflict between statements which stand side by side without any relation to one another, and which no longer have anything to say to each other at all. Faith and knowlsge of the world are no longer locked in a conflict about the truth. They are resting side by side in a vacant co-existence.' In an attempt to map new theological territory in the true spirit of dialogue, Moltmann suggests how theological perceptions of the world can be of importance to science and how scientific discoveries can enrich theology. Moltmann has long been involved in scientific-theological dialogue, and these collected essays are a product of over fifty years' reflection. The book falls into two parts, 'Theology and Cosmology' and 'The Wisdom of the Sciences', through which pressing contemporary questions are explored, such as the ecological crisis and ethical questions surrounding biomedical research. Science and Wisdom is set to make a vital contribution to contemporary debates surrounding theology and the sciences.
