This volume provides a thorough comparison of the rituals, beliefs and history of Sikhism and Christianity. Chapters focus on God, revelation, the scriptures, worship, ethics and the history of these two religions, and highlights both differences and similarities. The Sikh nation was the last to be annexed by the British, in 1849. Since then, the Sikhs and their religion have fascinated many Western visitors to India. Their martial tradition attracted the attention of British army officers and has often resulted in an over-emphasis being placed upon this aspect of their culture. Only with the movement of Sikhs to Europe and North America in the 1950s as economic migrants did a broader knowledge of their religious beliefs and practices develop. Even now there are still scholars who erroneously regard Sikhs as Hindus. Cole and Sambhi have also written "The Sikhs: Their Religious Beliefs and Practices".

About the book >.>.> The authors have been constrained by a number of considerations in writing this book. The first is the recognition that readers may not have as easy access to primary or secondary sources for the study of Sikhism as they may have for Christianity. Most books on the subject are published in India. Even if booksellers have good contacts in the subcontinent and can locate them, availability is often affected by small print runs of only a couple of thousand copies. We have therefore tried to write a book which is self-explanatory, though occasionally references are given to other sources where we think that readers might find them helpful. For this reason we have also confined ourselves more to the fundamental teachings of the religions, especially Christianity, rather than to exploring developments. Our discussion of grace, for example, would have constituted a book in itself, if we had given attention to the views of Christian theologians during the last two millenia. Sikhism is a very scriptural tradition. Compariso. Nº de ref. del artículo: Batch-FM527-VG-11481
