The financial industry worldwide is involved in a major restructuring process, and the expression "financial revolution" has been used to describe it. Deregulation, intensifying competition and technology are amongst the most important stimulants of change. Europe 1992 promises new opportunities and risks. The apparent inexorable movement towards increasingly "strongly market-orientated" financial systems in many western countires has stimulated new challenges and questions. Many senior bankers talk about a complete "breaking away" from the banking of yesterday. The contributors to this volume cover many of these issues.
