Excerpt from Puerto Rico and Its Resources
While the writer has always held'a preface to be in its very nature a work of supererogation, yet, having told all he knows about Puerto Rico, in this book of facts, he is called upon to write an ex post facto introductory. Having exhausted his own stock of information, then, and having presented the gist of what his predecessors in the same field may have garnered, it only remains, perhaps, to tell why he did it, and to mention what had been done before him.
