The accounts of the battles have been taken from works of the most reliable historians and the facts that are added have been given to me by those who were in these battles.

To the many friends who have kindly aided me in furnishing this little store of valuable knowledge to the people of Chattanooga, as well as the travel ing stranger, I return my sincere thanks.
