Excerpt from Report on Manuscripts in the Welsh Language, Vol. 2: Part III; Panton, Cwrtmawr
The Rev. Rich: Evans of Kingsland in Herefordshire has promised me the perusal of Bishop Humphrey's curious collection of mss., who by two letters of his in my custody, seems to have taken uncommon pains to settle the chronology of our history and to note down ecclesiastical matters. If I shall be so happy as to see and make use of the Bishop's mss., I suppose I shall have every assistance that possibly can be to publish as perfect a history of Wales as the few materials we have left us will permit.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of Welsh manuscripts and the individuals who sought to preserve them. It dives into the life and work of Evan Evans, a dedicated scholar who passionately collected and transcribed ancient Welsh poetry, history, and legal texts. Evans's efforts, however, were largely ignored by his contemporaries, and he ultimately died in poverty without seeing his work published. The book explores the struggles Evans faced in a society that actively discouraged the use and study of the Welsh language, highlighting the deep-rooted cultural and political forces at play during the 18th century. Through detailed analysis of Evansââ â¢s extensive collection, the book reveals the rich tapestry of Welsh literature and the profound impact of its preservation on the understanding of Welsh history, language, and identity. Ultimately, this work presents a poignant and insightful account of a scholar's dedication to his craft and the broader fight for cultural preservation in a turbulent era.
