Dr. Ram Swaroop Meena is an Agronomist working in the Department of Agronomy, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, India. Dr. Meena has been awarded Raman Research Fellowship by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. He has completed his postdoctoral research on soil carbon sequestration under Padma Shri Prof. Rattan Lal, World Food Prize Laureate, Columbus, USA. Dr. Meena has completed 10 external funded projects including, MHRD, ICAR, DST, etc.

Dr. Sandeep Kumar is currently working as a scientist (Agronomy) at the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Regional Station, Karnal, India. His research interests have focused on enhancing resource use efficiencies for sustainable crop production. He has published extensively, received numerous national awards, including Young Scientist, Best Paper Awards, Best Research Scholar, and received Best Master’s Thesis awards.

Advances in Legume-based Agroecoystem for Sustainable Intensification explores current research and future strategies for ensuring capacity growth and socio-economic improvement through the utilization of legume crop cultivation and production in the achievement of Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs).

Beginning with foundational insights into the importance of legumes in health and wealth establishment and improvement, the book includes the role of legumes in addressing issues of food security, improving nitrogen in the environment, and their importance in a diversified diet. In the second section of the book issues of environmental sustainability are addressed. The chapters in this section explore economic-environmentally optimized systems, importance and impact of nitrogen, organic production, and biomass potential. The third section focuses on the role of legume production by addressing legume biology, breeding improvement, cropping systems and use of legumes for eco-friendly weed management. The final section focuses on the genetic challenges and improvements of breeding legumes to address nutrition and quantitative needs.
