The principal part of the Spectroscope (that by which the decomposition of light is effected) is either a grating or a prism. We shall confine ourselves to the discussion of the prism, which has led to such extensive discoveries; though it must be conceded that it is only by means. Of the diffraction-grating that a truly normal spectrum can be obtained.
