This book delves into the fascinating world of algebraic equations, specifically exploring methods of approximation for solving equations that cannot be solved directly. The author meticulously examines the groundbreaking work of prominent mathematicians like Mr. Raphson and Dr. Halley, placing their methods within the context of earlier advancements in the field. He meticulously compares and contrasts these methods, providing detailed examples and calculations to illustrate their strengths and weaknesses. The book goes beyond a mere technical examination, exploring the complexities of finding accurate solutions, the relative efficiency of different approaches, and the inherent challenges of working with complex equations. The author's exploration of these methods of approximation, their history, and their application reveals the ingenious and often laborious nature of 18th-century mathematics, showcasing the intellectual rigor and dedication required to solve intricate problems in algebra.

Having thus gone through the refolutio'n of the equa. Tion a lyx' 54: 350 by Dr. Halley's method, I proceed to refolve it by Mr. Raphfon's method, begin ning the approximation to the value of x from the fame number 15, which was taken for a, or it's firfi near value, in the foregoing refolution, of the equation by Dr. Halley's method.
