Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is an early example of an English literary critique, satire, and elegy from the Elizabethan era, written as prose but presented as poetry. It was created through the collaboration of three authors: The Complaint of Phylomene by George Gascoigne, written in April 1562; The Steele Glas by Gascoigne, begun in the same year and completed in 1576; and A Dolefull Knell of Death by Whetstone, written in response to Gascoigne's death in 1577. The Steele Glas, a piece of ethical criticism, was met with controversy at the time of its publication, and presents observations on the social and moral standards of the time within England's aristocracy and ruling classes. It is one of the first works of its kind in English literature, and provides insight into the historical context of class structure and moral evolution in the country, challenging social and feudal hierarchies and the vanity and consumerism he observed within English society, and promoting instead virtues of simplicity, moderation, and selflessness. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Nº de ref. del artículo: 9780282612191_0
