Excerpt from Devon Notes and Queries, Vol. 3: A Quarterly Journal Devoted to the Local History Biography and Antiquities of the County of Devon; From January 1904 to October 1905
In presenting the first part of the third volume of devon notes and queries to Subscribers and the public, the Editors ask their numerous contributors - whose Notes, Queries, and Articles have done so much to make the undertaking a success - to accept their thanks for the kind assistance hitherto rendered. The amount Of interesting and valuable material available exceeds the space at their disposal, and from time to time some contributions are necessarily held over for future publication.
It will be noticed that additional matter and additional illustrations have been sometimes given, and it is but right to say that the publisher never hesitates to comply with the wishes of the Editors when they consider further outlay is necessary for the benefit Of the Magazine.
The communications received from the Colonies and the United States show that the interest in the publication is not confined to Home readers, but is wide spread among English people of Devonshire origin, and forms a link for them with the home of their ancestors.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book studies the imagery and history of the East Window of Exeter Cathedral. It begins by exploring the role of heraldry throughout the window, organizing the numerous coats of arms into chronological order for ease of interpretation. The authors then move on to use the window as an entry point into the broader social, religious, and political life of medieval England. The book especially focuses on the windowâs donor portraits, which represent key figures from the history of Devon, and the portrayal of various saints, including the cityâs patron St. Sidwell. The East Window of Exeter Cathedral is a valuable resource on the history, religious beliefs, and artistic tastes of the Middle Ages.
