Sinopsis

Excerpt from A Course of English Literature

The present book is based upon a series of papers contributed some years ago to a popular periodical. It is intended for the use, not of schools only, but of that large and increasing class of young men in our great cities, who desire to be guided to the acquirement of a respectable knowledge of our national literature. I believe that there is sufficient novelty in its plan and execution to entitle it to a fair trial; and I am not without hopes that it may help to keep alive that interest in the great masters of the past, which cannot perish without injury.
