Maritain argues that there are different ’kinds’ and ’orders’ of knowledge and, within them, different ’degrees’ determined by the nature of the thing to be known and the ’degree of abstraction’ involved. The book is divided into two parts: Part one discusses the degrees of knowledge for science and philosophy - or ’rational knowledge,’ and part two discusses the degrees of knowledge for religious faith and mysticism - or ’super-rational knowledge.’

Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. Maritain argues that there are different 'kinds' and 'orders' of knowledge and, within them, different 'degrees' determined by the nature of the thing to be known and the 'degree of abstraction' involved. The book is divided into two parts: Part one discusses the degrees of knowledge for science and philosophy or 'rational knowledge,' and part two discusses the degrees of knowledge for religious faith and mysticism or 'super-rational knowledge.' This work is Maritain's masterpiece. Published as "Distinguer pour unir, ou Les degres du savoir" in 1932, the book proposes a hierarchy of forms of knowledge that culminates in mystical experience and that wisdom which is a gift of the Holy Ghost. His inspiration is St Thomas Aquinas. This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.
