Excerpt from Foreign Crops and Markets, Vol. 62: April 9, 1951
World cattle numbers at the beginning of 1951 are estimated at millier head by the Office of Foreign Agricultural Relations. This pre liminary estimate places the world cattle popuhmion at a record level and about 2 percent more than the revised estimates for 1950. Current numbers are 8 percent above the 1936~ao prewar average. A further moderate in crease ih world cattle numbers is in prospect during 1951; however, a tightening of feed supplies in many important cattle areas may curtail further expansion of herds.
