Excerpt from Heat Transmission by Radiation, Conduction and Convection
The laws concerning convection and the resistance to the flow of fluids have been discussed in Chapter III at some length in view of the intimate relations existing between the resistance to flow and the transmission of heat by convection. Also in describing apparatus and experimental data in Chapters III, and IV, a fair amount of detail has been given so as not to leave the evidence and information obscure. As far as possible all the experimental points have been plotted in the various graphs, as this was felt to be necessary so that the reader could see how near the curves follow the points, besides indicating the number of separate tests made in each series.
Nearly the whole of the experimental data, however, were obtained from small apparatus. Comparisons with the results of tests on boilers, condensers, and similar plant, and the application of the laws of heat transmission to design, have been reserved for treatment in H eat Transmission in Boilers, Condensers, and Evaporators.
