Chez nous, malgré le renom que lui fit au siècle dernier l'admiration passion née de Voltaire malgré la part honorable qu'on lui accorde dans l'histoire de la philosophie moderne, on peut dire qu'il est comme noyé dans la gloire de Des cartes. Beaucoup ne voient même en lui qu'un cartésien dissident, ayant apporté à la philosophie cartésienne des modifications malheureuses.
