Excerpt from Helping Farmers Build Cooperatives: The Evolution of Farmer Cooperative Service
Mr. Abrahamsen has served with Farmer Cooperative Service and its predecessor organization, the Cooperative Research and Service Division, Farm Credit Administration, since 1949. Before that time he had 13 years' experience in teaching and research in agricultural cooperation at West Virginia University and North Carolina State College. Because of continuing responsibilities in a broad range of cooperative research and educational efforts, his experience well supplements that of Mr. Mckay when it comes to interpreting the implications of recent governmental programs with cooperatives and the efforts of these associations to provide assistance to the people they are organized to serve: This study has been made to provide a record of many develop ments which might otherwise be lost - to preserve the lessons of the past for the use of the present and future. It has been prepared primarily for research workers, teachers, cooperative leaders, and those of the general public who have an interest in and appreciation of the forces that have helped make farmer cooperatives what they are today.
