The techniques are practical, designed to address the characterization of very pure materials. The activation analysis group focused on the determination of trace amounts of argon in silicon single crystals, chlorine in polystyrene, as well as the determination of hafnium in zirconium and Zircaloy Standard Reference Materials. The radiation techniques group concentrated on a Standard Reference Material for the differential chemical shift of iron compounds in MBssbauer spectroscopy research, as well as differential chemical shift of iron compounds, and an absolute velocity MBssbauer spectrometer. The radioisotope techniques group explored trace element analysis with radioisotopic tracers. Insights are presented on sealed source fabrication and controlled-potential coulometry, among other topics.
