Excerpt from X-Ray Wavelength Conversion Tables and Graphs for Qualitative Electron Probe Microanalysis
Notwithstanding the complexity of some techniques used in mic'roprobe analysis, the making and interpreting of simple x-ray wavelength scans for qualitative elemental analysis is, in our experience, one of the most tedious tasks. Frequently, it is necessary to perform several wavelength scans on the same specimen; in the long wavelength region, numerous lines in higher orders may appear. A further complication arises from the fact that the spectrometers of our instrument are provided with crystal changers. Consequently, with the exception of the readings corresponding to lif crystals, which give the wavelength in angstrom units, the readings corresponding to an observed peak must be multiplied by factors characteristic of each crystal in order to be transformed into wavelengths.
