Sinopsis

A bold meditation on humanity’s place in nature, and how all life points toward the human form.

Proteus: A Rhapsody on Man gathers a sweeping philosophical vision that links ancient myth, modern science, and spiritual inquiry. It presents man as the central, unifying force of the universe, continually evolving through every stage of life—from mineral to human—toward a higher, divine potential. The work blends mythic imagery with a rigorous belief in cosmic unity, inviting readers to see themselves as part of a grand, interconnected tapestry.

Through dense, sometimes provocative prose, the author explores how every creature and form reflects a strand of the same universal soul. It argues that the human being is both product and measure of creation, capable of transcending the limits of the present through growth, transformation, and a future evolution toward greater harmonies with nature and the divine.

  • Explore the idea that life’s purpose threads through every level of existence, culminating in the human form.

  • Consider the claim that humanity is a universal or cosmic principle, linking all beings.

  • Encounter myth, science, and mysticism fused into a single view of evolution and destiny.

  • Reflect on the potential future states of humanity and their ethical, spiritual implications.

Ideal for readers drawn to philosophical explorations of evolution, mythic symbolism, and the unity of nature.

Reseña del editor

Excerpt from Proteus: A Rhapsody on Man

At his death, Mr. Wheelock directed all his manuscripts to be destroyed. Fortunately, a number of his sermons and addresses had been published by the press and were thus preserved. The present work, too, had been privately printed in earlier years for circulation among friends and a few copies were found among the author's papers.
