Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This gripping slave narrative details the harsh realities and brutal punishments endured by James Williams, an 18-year-old Jamaican apprentice, under the newly introduced apprenticeship system following the abolition of slavery. Despite initially being subjected to whippings and confinement in the notorious St. Ann's Bay workhouse, Williams' resilience shines through as he seeks justice and ultimately secures his freedom with the assistance of English philanthropists. The author provides a vivid account of the dehumanizing treatment inflicted upon apprentices, highlighting the ongoing struggle for equality and basic human rights within the context of post-emancipation Jamaica.
