Puis vinrent les travaux de Fischer, d'aran, et surtout de Trousseau. Le nom de Trousseau est devenu inséparable de celui de Graves et de Base dow. Après lui on peut dire que l'histoire clinique du goitre exophtalmique est faite. Il a été publié un nombre considérabled'observations, des détails nouveaux, des formes insolites ont été mises au jour, mais en somme en a peu ajouté à la descrip tion du maitre. Ce qui date de notre temps, ce sont des recherches d'anatomie pathologique et de physiologie expérimentale par lesquelles on a essayé d'expliquer le mécanisme des symptômes et la pathogénie de la maladie.

Dans son remarquable Traité des maladies du coeur, il intitule un chapitre c Action exagérée des artères du cou et du coeur suivie de l'augmenta tion de la glande thyroïde et des globes oculaires a. Mais Stokcs lui-même accorde à Graves le mérite d'avoir distingué le premier en 1835, du goitre ordinaire, une hypertrophie particulière de la glande thyroïde.
