A l'époque où je fis la connaissance du curé Dalberg il avait en pension chez lui trois élèves Auguste Guillaume et le petit Louis. En outre quelques 'amis de la maison ve naient souvent le visiter, ce qui leur était d'autant plus facile qu'ils demeuraient dans le voisinage c'étaient particulièrement de Bernstorf propriétaire des environs et le bailli Gronau. Leurs enfants venaient aussi prendre des leçons avec les pensionnaires du curé; Édouard et Hérault étaient les fils du gentilhomme les enfants du bailli se nom maient François et Maximilien. Guillaume et François étaient les plus âgés et s'étaient liés ensemble d'une étroite amitié.

J e pourrais rapporter un grand nombre de traits intéressants sur ce vénérable prêtre et sur tout ce qui l'entom'ait mais je dois pour aujourd'hui me borner au récit d'une belle journée de printemps que je passai avec lui et ses élèves et à faire le récit d'une histoire fort curieuse que le bon M. Dalberg fut ame né à nous raconter, par suite des événements de cette journée.
