Quelque temps après l'introduction de la parcelle de radium dans la chambre de détente on observe que les particules et sont émises dans tous les sens (voir fig. Ce qui s'explique par le dégagement d'émana tion et le dépôt de la radioactivité induite sur les parois. On observe souvent qu'un trait fin semble disparaître lorsqu'il rencontre un trait élargi, pour réapparaître quand il quitte ce dernier; cela vient évidemment de ce qu'à cet endroit la vapeur n'est plus assez sursaturée.
