It is no part of the plan of this sketch to give a detailed account of the march of the two bodies of Cru saders, the one an undisciplined mob, under the leadership of Peter the Hermit, the second of carrying on its roll some of the brightest names of history. Nor of the third band of Germans, under the Monk Godes chal, who mostly perished in the wilds of Hungary. Suffice it that after the siege of Nice, and the taking of Edessa, the object of the expedition was gained, and the ban ner of the Christian hosts waved from the walls of Jerusalem on the 1sth of July, 1099.
