O Dr. Teixeira de Carvalho, estudou-os, escolheu - os e transcreveu - os, com aquele minucioso escrúpulo, que era uma das caracteristicas do seu método e enriqueceu-os com uma introdução e notas, que são, não so' a parte mais original do livro, mas constituem o comentário melhor informado que sôbre a história da arte do mosteiro se tem escrito.
O interesse dos manuscritos, sobretudo do primeiro, e', so' por si, indiscutível. Compilação e, por vezes co'pia tex tual, das crónicas, de Fr. Nicolau da Cru; (1690) hoje perdida, e Fr. M. B. De Castro (1746) ainda ine'dita, 0 ms. De Fr. Adriano repete, por vezes, os erros e conserva naturalmente as lacunas daqueles cronistas.
