Engaging historical debate on Trinity and church government
This volume presents a detailed reply to a controversial 1815 letter about Trinitarian theology. It frames disagreements with candor and aims to defend limits of personal attack while stressing fidelity to Christian truth. The text discusses atonement, the nature of Christ and the Holy Spirit, and how these ideas interact with church authority and discipline.
Readers gain access to a window into early American theological arguments, including how ministers debated Christology, the role of human reasoning in faith, and the relationship between church governance and scripture. The edition highlights the Cambridge Platform and Congregationalist principles, contrasting them with Presbyterian structures.
Ideal for readers of religious history, 18th–19th century theology, and those interested in how early American churches navigated doctrine and governance.

Excerpt from Things as They Are, or Trinitarianism Developed, Vol. 2: In Reply to "a Letter Written in February, 1815, to the Rev. Jacob Norton, of Weymouth, and Now Published With an Appendix, Containing Some Notes and Remarks, by Daniel Thomas, A. M. Pastor of the Second Church in Abington"
As to the evidence which the word Elohim is sup posed to afford of a plurality of persons in one God, I must believe that it is exceedingly feeble and precarious.

With respect to the admonitory part of your communication, I shall add but little to what I have already said. Your meeting with the Association, and occasionally exchanging with a majority of the members, proves that they have not rejected you as an heretick. Hence your complaint, that they have rejected you without admonition, is unfounded.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book responds to a series of claims of unorthodoxy made by a fellow reverend against the author. These claims stem from the authorâs rejection of the concept of the Trinity, and his belief that Jesus was not divine but a God-created being. The author uses his response as an opportunity to explore the history of the concept of the Trinity, engaging with the concept of Arianism in particular, and arguing that his views do not stray from traditional Christian beliefs, as some have claimed. The book is a fascinating exploration of Christian doctrine, written with an eye toward recovering the orthodoxy of the early church through a careful and challenging re-examination of core ideas.
