Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the three philosophies prevalent in 19th-century France: sensualism, spiritualism and eclecticism. It is argued that the first two are insufficient, that sensualism makes man a mere organism and that spiritualism posits an unproven source of knowledge beyond man. Eclecticism, the third system, seeks something between the two, but the author finds it a confused and incoherent mixture. Instead, the author brings the reader to Catholicism and argues that this is the only logical and consistent philosophy. It bases its essential truths on revelation from God, who both created man and communicated truth to him. The author claims that this is the only system that can truly explain the nature of man and his place in the universe. He finds the Catholic philosophical approach superior to all others.
