These twelve short and unpretentious chap ters were written as Bible readings for a monthly religious paper, never thinking that they would be printed in any substantial form Since their appearance in the papers they have been printed and circulated to quite an extent in tract form,* and the reception which has been given them has encouraged me to believe that their useful ness may be extended in their present form. This, then. Is my apology for the appearance Of this modest volume.
