In the spring of 1962 the mit School of Industrial Management, with the encouragement and financial support of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, undertook to develop a program of research and education on the problems of organizing and managing large-scale technology-based enter prises. The studies now in progress and planned for the future are focused on the broad objective of understanding and improving the effectiveness of R D activities. Statements of the underlying concepts which guide the program appear in talks delivered at the 17th Annual Conference on the Administration of Research, September 1963 (marquis, and at the September 1963 international convention of The Institute of Management Sciences (roberts, 1963)
