Excerpt from An Agency Theory View of the Management of End-User Computing

The dramatic decline in the costs of hardware and the trend towards the increased power of microcomputers and minicomputers have enabled significant growth in end-user computing (buc). This trend has implications not only for the management of buc but also for the degree of centralization of the Information Systems (is) function in organizations. Therefore, there has been increased focus on the organizational issues surrounding buc, as evidenced by senior IS executives' responses in several recent surveys.1 Management issues related to decentralization of the IS department also ranked high on their list of concerns.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a groundbreaking analysis of the relationship between information technology and organizational control, exploring how different groups within an organization have divergent interests. It draws on microeconomics and agency theory to create a positive model explaining the growth of end-user computing (EUC). The author examines the principal-agent problem within an economic framework and analyzes its impact on information services production strategies. Using descriptive data from earlier EUC research, the model is evaluated and shown to possess considerable explanatory power. This work provides clear insights into EUC and has significant normative implications for the management of computing in organizations, providing a valuable tool for understanding and effectively navigating the challenges of information technology within organizations. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Nº de ref. del artículo: 9780243191741_0
