Excerpt from The Funeral Service, and Other Services: Selected Scripture Readings Appropriately Arranged for Various Funeral Occasions; Selections From the Poets; Ritual for Funeral and Other Services; Record for Funerals, Etc
We are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding. Lord, make me to know my end, and the meas ure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am. For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. If a man die, shall he live again?
