Excerpt from A Series of Letters on Important Doctrinal and Practical Subjects, Addressed to Rev. Samuel C. Aikin, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, in Utica, N. Y: To Which Are Annexed, a Bible Creed and Six Letters to Rev. D. C. Lansing, D.D., Late Pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church, in Said City, on the Subject of a Course of Lectures Delivered by Him Against Universalism, in the Winter of 1830
In regard to the peculiar style of the first three letters, I have merely to refer the reader to the explanation in letter fourth, for the reasons inducing me to adopt that style, believing that Will satisfy every cant, did and discriminating mind, of the perfect propriety of the course adopted; and asking the reader not to lay aside the book till he has read through the explanation - then, if _he does not choose to read fur ther, or is afraid of having his faith in modern Orthodoxy, so called, shaken he had better lay it aside.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book confronts the controversies of Christian doctrines that were rampant in the 1820s. The author, a devout follower of universal salvation, writes in a humorous but direct style intended to convert his audiences to his beliefs. He argues for an interpretation of the Bible that emphasizes God's love for all people, rather than the harsh and dogmatic precepts he sees in the predominant Calvinist teachings popular at the time. The author ambitiously attempts to refute the popular doctrines of the Presbyterian church, arguing that these beliefs are incompatible with the true nature of God and with sound moral principles. This book remains significant because it encapsulates a moment of significant theological upheaval in the United States, a time when individuals representing a wide range of Christian denominations debated the nature of God, the nature of salvation, and the nature of humanity itself.
