Sinopsis

Excerpt from The Greek Theory of the State and the Nonconformist Conscience: A Socialistic Defence of Some Ancient Institutions

The chief value of any such argument as that which is here attempted on the subject of social equality must be due to its shewing that the reasons commonly urged against the possibility of a general equality of all classes in society prove too much prove, namely, the impossibility, for any class, of that kind of equality which, in spite of very great difi'erences in wealth, birth, and intelligence, does actually exist in the upper class at the present time.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book, published in 1895, draws intriguing parallels between Aristotle's Greek theory of the state and the Nonconformist conscience in late 19th-century England. The author, a Nonconformist minister and social reformer, argues that both Aristotle and the Nonconformists believed that the state had a moral function beyond simply protecting property and securing individual liberty. It should also promote the good life and encourage citizens to live virtuous and fulfilling lives. The author contends that this Hellenic theory of the state has much to offer modern society, particularly in light of the growing trend towards socialism. By examining the relationship between politics and social life, and the role of the state in regulating vice, the author offers a nuanced and thought-provoking perspective on the proper function of government. This book's insights into the nature of the state and its relationship to the individual remain highly relevant today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Nº de ref. del artículo: 9780243076826_0
