Even though the pain caused is not intense, a source of irritation may exist at one point and be felt at an other widely separated from the actual seat of disturb ance.' In all such cases the sensation is in reality a transferred pain, and strictly speaking can not be termed reflex. The pain sometimes felt in the breasts in disease Of the womb, or the pain felt on the inside of the leg at the knee in disease of the hip-joint are illustrations of this fact.
Pain or aching, general in its distribution, is found to exist in the majority of fevers, especially during their first stages. This aching results, as a rule, from the action of poison or impurities in the blood on the nervous system.
