Excerpt from The Normal Herald, Vol. 3: May, 1897
On Saturday May 22, the Normals defeated the Shadyside Academy boys at Normal Park, by a score of 10-2. Beeman who was in the box for Shady side was not much of a puzzle for the Normal boys, and his support was rather ragged. The game was a well played one on the part of the Normal, and they won the game on its merits.
