Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition. First impression of the true first edition - a very large format hardcover monograph. Published by André Deutsch in collaboration with The American Federation of Arts. Edited by William Manchester, with introductory essays by Jean Lacouture and Fred Ritchin. ***Very good in black cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The boards are clean, with just a few insignificant marks. Head and tail of spine slightly creased, but no serious creases or bumps. Corners sharp. Page block clean - just slightly marked at the bottom of the fore-edge. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also very good with no inscriptions or annotations. No creases or tears. There is some light foxing affecting the endpapers and the half-title page, but no foxing to the interior pages. Photographic plates clean and bright. ***In a very good black and white illustrated dustwrapper, which retains the original publisher's printed price of £35. The dustwrapper is complete, but there is some creasing at the edges - especially at the top edge. There is also a 2cm closed tear at the top edge of the back panel (reinforced with clear tape on the reverse). No other tears and no chips. The dustwrapper is slightly foxed on the inside surface, and on the foldover flaps. No fading. Dustwrapper bright. ***340mm x 250mm. 456 pages including Acknowledgments, "Images: A Wide Angle" by William Manchester, "The Founders" by Jean Lacouture, Plates, "What is Magnum?" by Fred Ritchin, Biographical Notes and Selected Bibliographies by Stuart Alexander, Bibliography and Chronology of Magnum by Stuart Alexander, Notes on the Printing of Photographs. ***'The photographers represented here have all belonged to Magnum, a collective founded in 1947 to give photojournalists artistic freedom and control over the rights to their work. Magnum's archives are a repository of the masterpieces of photography of the past half-century.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***First impression of the true first edition, printed on nice photographic quality paper, sumptuously illustrated with numerous monochrome (and occasional colour) photographs, complete in the original dustwrapper, in very good condition. Of interest to collectors of the work of the renowned Magnum collective of photographers. A beautifully produced book. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. ***Please note that this is a VERY LARGE and HEAVY book (weighing in at 3kg without packing) and will incur extra shipping charges if sold outside the UK.
