This is an updated overview of the field of consciousness. It is designed to be both comprehensive and accessible and assumes no background knowledge. After giving a brief historical background and a description of the physiology of consciousness (which has been simplified in this edition), Wallace and Fisher examine the influence of consciousness-altering drugs, hypnosis, biofeedback, meditation, the physiology and psychology of sleep and dreams, sensory deprivation and parapsychology, as well as future applications in the field.
