The book covers microprocessor-controlled power electronic drives, focusing in particular on the control and use of low- and medium-power motors. Such drives have applications in the motion control of robots, computer peripherals, and numerically controlled machines. The first chapter deals with the general relationship between computers, power circuitry, and motors. Other chapers discuss a.c. to d.c. converters, servo-amplifiers, stepping-motor drives, and inverters. A unique theory on the pulse-width modulation technique for inverters is presented. The final chapter describes a useful method for position control using a d.c. motor.
