Sinopsis
How and why do people give and obey commands? Through extensive field studies of the words and body language of command, the author shows how hierarchies systematically elicit and repress the aggressive and friendly gestures derived from our distant evolutionary past. This book presents a unique observational analysis of institutional dominance which includes data on actual command behaviour, associated emotional expressions, and the techniques used to secure compliance. A unique feature is the emphasis on universal social categories, identified as evolved behaviours and primary emotions.
