9780198508335: The Cognitive and Neural Bases of Spatial Neglect

Spatial neglect is a disorder of space-related behaviour. It is characterized by failure to explore the side of space contralateral to a brain lesion, or to react or respond to stimuli or subjects located on this side. Research on spatial neglect and related disorders has developed rapidly in recent years. These advances have been made as a result of neuropsychological studies of patients with brain damage, behavioural studies of animal models, as well as through functional neurophysiological experiments and functional neuroimaging.

Review:

This edited book represents the state of the art in research on spatial neglect and related disorders . . . The contributors to this book, all leading clinicians and researchers in the field, provide illuminating and scholarly accounts of recent research on the cognitive and neural bases for spatial neglect . . . The book will be a valuable reference source for clinicians, particularly those working with stroke patients in rehabilitation settings where neglect can be a formidable barrier to effective therapy. It will also prove indispensable for students and researchers who are seeking an up to date account of experimental and theoretical advances in spatial neglect. * JNNP * . . . this book is a highly recommended resource for anyone in the field of cognitive neuroscience investigating neglect or related topics (attention, spatial processing, awareness). It provides an overview from leaders in the field of the current state of knowledge and the major controversies that arise from this strange but intriguing neuropsychological syndrome. * Cortex, 40 *
