It assess the conflict between the various uses: fishing; extraction of oil, sand and gravel; shipping; defence; the prevention of pollution and control of waste (including nuclear toxic waste disposal); conservation; and recreation. The subject is outlined against the background of the geographical setting and resources available. This is followed by an examination of each of the areas covered. The legal situation is examined in two separate chapters. The book is based on a multi-disciplinary study of the waters surrounding the UK which was commissioned by the David Davies Memorial Institute of International Studies. Ths material has been integrated into a book by a group of experts headed by Professor Clark. Readership: lawyers; geographers; economists; political scientists; conservationists.
