Computers are now making a significant impact on research and teaching in the humanities. The primary focus of this book is on assessing these developments in a range of humanities disciplines, from English literature to archaeology. Does the computer challenge conceptions about a discipline, pointing to new theoretical models and opening up new research questions? Does the computer serve to make learning and teaching more effective? Are there dangers in the too-ready adoption of computer methods? Each chapter is written by an author actively involved in developing the teaching of a humanities discipline with the aid of the computer.
