A thesis on the inherent motivations behind the Cold War which argues that ideology was the cornerstone of the conflict and demonstrates that Stalin's single-minded adherence to Marxism-Leninism created an atmosphere, both domestically and internationally, of constant insecurity.

About the Author:
Vojtech Mastny has taught history and international relations at Columbia University, the University of Illinois, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. His many books includeThe Helsinki Process and the Reintegration of Europe and The Czechs under Nazi Rule, which won the Clarke F. Ansley award.
