Sinopsis
With the aid of this book it is possible to look up a hymn tune and find out its history. Little special knowledge is required - the reader need only know how the tune begins. Once you have found the tune, the book tells when it was first printed, the composer, what texts it was sung to, and what happened to it in later history. In four volumes the book covers approximately 18,000 British and American hymn tunes dating from 1535 to 1820.
